With the standard fare (Normalpreis) you can just board the train and get going – travel to the destination of your choice within Germany flexibly at any time. You never have to pay more than 142 euros (2nd Class) or 230 euros (1st Class) for a single journey (e.g. Hamburg-Munich in less than 6 hours).
The Standard Fare (Normalpreis) is recommended for:

With our Standard Fare (Normalpreis) you can travel within Germany flexibly at any time - even with your family. If you are travelling with your children or grandchildren you can benefit from our family discount. Children under the age of 15 travel for free if they are accompanied by parents or grandparents! If your children are travelling on their own, they always receive a 50 % discount. Children younger than 6 years of age always travel for free and are not required to have a ticket. To benefit from the family discount you have to register your 6 to 14 year old children who are travelling with you on your ticket or name them when you book your ticket online. You cannot register them once you board the train.

Return journey: valid on two consecutive days within one month. The first date of validity has to be fixed at the moment of purchase or by a ticket inspector on board of the train.

ICE-Sprinter and City Night Line may be used with a supplement only (for the night trains in combination with a reservation)
|Ticket:||Applies for a single journey. Outward and return journey can be booked in one session.|
|Detour:||Possible if the point of departure and the destination station do not change. The difference between the standard fare (if so with BahnCard 25 or BahnCard 50) of the original route and the new route will be calculated. The period of validity stays corresponding to the ticket.|
|Coach class:||1st class + 2nd class|
|BahnCard discount/RAILPLUS:||Get an extra 25% or 50% discount with the BahnCard 25 or a BahnCard 50. Travel abroad with a 25% discount (RAILPLUS).|
|Children's discount:||Children under 6 years of age travel for free.
Children between 6 and 14 years of age travel for free if they are accompanied by their parents. The number of accompanying children has to be specified at the moment of purchase.
|Exchange/reimbursement:||Up to one day before the first day of validity: for free.
From the first day of validity: possible for a fee of 15 euros.
