Please note that a valid reservation is required on all ÖBB Nightjet trains. This reservation is automatically included when you book your ÖBB Nightjet ticket with DB. If you board an ÖBB Nightjet without a ticket including a reservation, you must buy a new ticket on the train. The price will also include an additional fee for on-board ticket purchase.

Travel options on the ÖBB Nightjet

Travel to your destination in your sleep on the ÖBB Nightjet. You have the following travel options:

The sleeper is the most comfortable way to travel on the ÖBB Nightjet. Travel in your own compartment on comfortable berths with fresh linen.

Economy sleeper compartment
You can choose between Triple (3 berths), Double (2 berths) and Single (1 berth). Every compartment has its own washing facility including toiletries, slippers, towels, a mirror and socket. In addition, there is a washing facility with a washbasin, toilet and shower at the end of each coach. At the beginning of your trip you will receive a welcome package including an aperitif, snack and mineral water. In the morning you will receive a breakfast of your choice with free refills for hot drinks and a selection of daily newspapers.

Deluxe sleeper compartment
The Deluxe compartments have their own bathroom with a washbasin, shower (incl. shower gel and towels), lavatory and a fold-out table. You can choose between Triple (3 berths), Double (2 berths) and Single (1 berth). At the beginning of your trip you will receive a welcome package including an aperitif, snack and mineral water. In the morning you will receive a breakfast of your choice with free refills for hot drinks and a selection of daily newspapers.

Service in sleepers
Put together your own individual breakfast in the evening. You will find the menu card in every compartment. Breakfast will be served in the morning in your compartment. In addition, you can order warm and cold snacks and drinks from the train crew to your compartment for a fee. At the start of your journey, the train crew will arrange a wake-up time with you if you wish to be woken in the morning.

Compartments in couchette coaches have either 4 or 6 berths. They are suitable for groups, families or price-conscious individual travellers. A blanket, sheet and fresh pillow are provided at each berth. Washing facilities and toilets can be found at the end of the coach. A small breakfast is included.

Private couchette compartments
If you want greater privacy in your ÖBB Nightjet's couchette coach, you can book a private compartment for EUR 99. This price covers 1-6 passengers (1-3 adults, max. 5 children aged 0-14).

Women-only compartments
Special compartments are available for women travelling alone. Please make your booking at least four days in advance at a DB Reisezentrum (DB Travel Centre), a travel agency with a DB licence or by calling the Deutsche Bahn service hotline at +49 (0) 30 2970 (charges depending on provider).

Wheelchair compartments
Many connections include a carriage with a wheelchair-accessible compartment and adjoining sanitary facilities for passengers with reduced mobility.

This special compartment offers space for one passenger with a wheelchair and an accompanying person.
Customers can pay a supplement to upgrade their reserved seat to a berth with sleeper linen and an à la carte breakfast. Please book a compartment in good time. The reduced-price ticket for the traveller's companion and supplement for the compartment are only available on the train.

Travelling in a seated coach is the most affordable way to travel on the ÖBB Nightjet. All 2nd class compartments have six seats. Washing facilities and lavatories can be found at the end of the coach. In couchette and sleeper coaches you can purchase beverages and snacks from the train crew.

Arrive fresh and relaxed by train – and take your car, motorbike or bicycle with you.

Transporting cars/motorbikes
ÖBB Nightjet services on the following routes provide for daily transportation of cars and motorbikes:

Please note: Transporting a vehicle is only possible in combination with a seat, couchette or sleeper ticket.
Passengers also need a supplementary vehicle transportation ticket along with their personal ticket.

Questions and answers about the ÖBB Nightjet

Yes. You need a valid reservation for the journey. The seat reservation is already included in the ticket. If you travel on the ÖBB Nightjet without a reservation, you will need to buy a reservation on the train. An extra fee will be charged for the on-board reservation.

Yes. The berths in Triple and Double compartments can be booked individually. This means that you will share the compartment with other passengers (separate compartments for men and women).

Yes. Special compartments for women are available for women travelling alone. Boys are not permitted to travel in ladies-only compartments. Please book a separate compartment or gender-neutral couchette compartment. Yes. As a family you can travel in your own family compartment. You can book the compartment for up to 2 adults and 1 to 4 children (up to the age of 14). Yes. Two adjacent compartments can be converted into a suite for up to six people by means of a connecting door. This gives you even more space and comfort during your journey. Combine either two Economy compartments or one Economy and one Deluxe compartment. These options currently cannot be booked online. They can only be booked at a DB Travel Centre, a travel agency with a DB licence or by calling the DB service hotline +49 30 2970 (charges depending on provider).

No. Children under the age of 15 must be accompanied by an adult on the ÖBB Nightjet.

Yes. All compartments can be locked from both sides by the passenger and the train crew can be contacted via a call system.

Yes. The BahnCard 25 and 50 offers you a discount on the ÖBB "Komfortticket" for night travel in Germany and on cross-border services where Germany is either the point of departure or arrival. ÖBB does not offer BahnCard discounts for the shorter "off-peak services" (in the early morning or late evening).
