Covid-19 and international long-distance rail travel

Are you planning a cross-border trip to or from Germany? Please note that travel is currently severely curtailed in most countries.

We recommend postponing cross-border travel until further notice. Checks at Germany’s borders with its neighbouring countries may cause delays for rail travellers.

Overview of the current restrictions in international long-distance transport:

Italy, Austria and Switzerland

The following services have been completely cancelled:

  • EC trains on the Munich – Kufstein – Innsbruck – Verona route
  • EC trains on the Munich – Lindau – Zürich route
  • EC trains on the Hamburg – Cologne – Mannheim – Basel –Zürich / Interlaken route
    Some services will restart on 25 May 2020.
  • ECE trains on the Frankfurt am Main – Basel – Milan route

The following services have been partially cancelled:

  • ICE trains on the Singen – Schaffhausen – Zürich route will not run between Stuttgart und Schaffhausen (Switzerland) until the end of service on 24 May 2020. IC trains will continue to run every 2 hours on the domestic route between Stuttgart und Singen.
  • ICE trains on the Hamburg / Berlin – Mannheim – Basel – Interlaken / Chur route will not run between Basel Badischer Bahnhof and Switzerland until the end of service on 24 May 2020.
  • ICE trains on the Dortmund – Mannheim – Basel route will run every 2 hours to/from Basel SBB.

France

Some services have been cancelled on the following connections:

  • ICE/TGV trains on the Frankfurt am Main – Mannheim – Saarbrücken – Paris route
  • ICE/TGV trains on the Frankfurt am Main / Stuttgart – Strasbourg – Paris route. Certain trains will operate on the Karlsruhe – Strasbourg – Paris route. DB’s long-distance trains provide connections to/from Karlsruhe.

The following service has been completely cancelled:

  • TGV trains on the Frankfurt am Main – Mannheim – Strasbourg – Marseille route

Belgium and Netherlands

Some services have been cancelled on the following connections:

  • ICE trains on the Frankfurt (M) – Cologne – Oberhausen – Utrecht – Amsterdam route
  • ICE trains on the Frankfurt am Main – Cologne – Brussels route

The following service has been completely cancelled:

  • IC trains on the Berlin – Hanover – Bad Bentheim – Amsterdam routeSome IC services between Berlin and Bad Bentheim will restart on 24 May 2020.

Denmark

The following service has been partially cancelled:

  • ICE trains on the Hamburg – Padborg – Copenhagen route
  • IC trains on the Hamburg – Flensburg – Aarhus route will not run between Hamburg and Padborg (Denmark)

Poland

The following service has been completely cancelled:

  • EC trains on the Frankfurt (Oder) – Warsaw Central route

Czech Republic

The following service has been partially cancelled:

  • EC trains on the (Kiel –) Hamburg – Berlin – Dresden – Prague (– Budapest) route will not run between Germany and Děčín (Czech Republic).
    Some services will restart on 25 May 2020.

IC Buses

The following services have been completely cancelled:
