Line closure between Rastatt and Baden-Baden

Rail services between Rastatt and Baden-Baden have been suspended until 2 October. This restriction affects southbound rail services via Basel and northbound services via Karlsruhe. Rail replacement services are available for passengers in Rastatt and Baden-Baden.

Passengers should plan for at least 60 minutes of extra travel time. All tickets purchased up until 22 August are valid on rail replacement services and for all detours. Tickets are no longer restricted to specific trains. If you no longer wish to travel due to the increased travel time, you can exchange or return tickets that were purchased before 22 August free of charge.

To have tickets purchased on bahn.com, with the DB Navigator app of mobile phone tickets refunded for free, please use the following form. Tickets purchased in a DB Travel Centre, a DB agency or at a DB ticket machine can only be refunded in a DB Travel Centre or DB agency. For tickets that were purchased after 22 August when the replacement timetable was already in place, the standard exchange and refund conditions and passenger rights apply.

Recommendations for international travel during construction work

Germany - France

We recommend the following connections for TGV/ICE connections between Germany and France:

  • Line 82 Frankfurt (Main) - Saarbrücken/Strasbourg - Paris:

    We recommend trains via Saarbrücken for passengers travelling from Frankfurt am Main to Paris. These trains also stop in Mannheim. Scheduled stops in Strasbourg and Karlsruhe are cancelled.
  • Line 83 Munich - Stuttgart - Paris Est:

    We recommend trains via Mannheim for passengers travelling from Munich and Stuttgart to Paris. A replacement stop has been created in Mannheim. There are no further stops between Mannheim and Paris. Scheduled stops in Strasbourg and Karlsruhe are cancelled.
  • We recommend trains to Mannheim for passengers travelling from Karlsruhe. At Mannheim, passengers can change to the international trains travelling to Paris.

Germany - Switzerland

We recommend the following connections for travel between Germany and Switzerland:

  • Line 12 Berlin - Frankfurt - Basel - Interlaken and Line 20 Hamburg - Frankfurt - Basel - Zurich

    For passengers travelling from Hamburg or Berlin to Offenburg, Freiburg, Basel or Interlaken via Kassel, Frankfurt and Mannheim, we recommend taking trains as far as Rastatt. Shuttle buses transport them from Rastatt to Baden-Baden. In Baden-Baden, they can catch the hourly IC service to Freiburg and Basel. Further connections within Switzerland are available at Basel SBB .
    For passengers travelling in the opposite direction, we recommend the hourly long-distance service from Basel to Baden-Baden. Shuttle buses transport passengers from Baden-Baden to Rastatt. From Rastatt, ICE services operate to Berlin and Hamburg via Mannheim, Frankfurt and Kassel. All trains stop in Offenburg.
  • Line 30 Hamburg - Cologne - Mannheim - Basel - Switzerland and Line 43 Cologne - Mannheim - Basel

    For passengers travelling to Offenburg, Freiburg, Zurich and Interlaken from Hamburg via Dortmund, Cologne and Mainz and from Cologne via Siegburg/Bonn and Frankfurt Airport, we recommend changing at Mannheim to ICE trains to Rastatt. Shuttle buses transport passengers from Rastatt to Baden-Baden. In Baden-Baden, they can catch the hourly IC service to Freiburg and Basel. Further connections within Switzerland are available at Basel SBB .
    For passengers travelling in the opposite direction, we recommend the hourly long-distance service from Basel to Baden-Baden. Shuttle buses transport passengers from Baden-Baden to Rastatt. From Rastatt, ICE services operate to Berlin and Hamburg via Mannheim, Frankfurt and Kassel. Passengers can change in Mannheim to catch the hourly ICE service to Hamburg and Cologne via the Ruhr district.
  • Stuttgart - Zurich:

    For passengers travelling from Stuttgart, we recommend using IC services on the Stuttgart-Hattingen-Singen line ("Gäubahn"). Further connections within Switzerland are available at Singen.
