Questions and answers about BahnCard

How do I book with a BahnCard?

Indicate what BahnCard you have on bahn.com's travel information page. If you have already reached the list of train connections but have not indicated what BahnCard you have, simply click ""Change"" to open the BahnCard selection option. Our system factors in your BahnCard when calculating the ticket price.

If you have a BahnCard 100, you do not need a ticket.

Do I have to live in Germany to order a BahnCard?

No. People living outside Germany can also order BahnCards.

Can I combine a BahnCard discount and saver fare?

Yes. Saver fares and discounts can be combined. The following discounts are available:

Super saver fare: 25% discount with a BahnCard 25 or BahnCard 50

Saver fare: 25% discount with a BahnCard 25 or BahnCard 50

Saver fare Europe: 25% discount on the German part of the route with BahnCard 25
In Switzerland and the Czech Republic: 25% discount on the German part of the route with BahnCard 50 as well.

Do I get a discount if I take a trip from Germany to another country?

RAILPLUS discounts covering the non-Germany part of a Flexible fare are available in the following European countries:

Bulgaria, Czech Republic, Luxembourg, Romania, Ireland, Denmark, Croatia, Latvia, Lithuania, Hungary, Macedonia, Norway, Austria, Greece, Poland, Spain, Switzerland, Belgium, Serbia, Slovenia, Italy, Finland, Montenegro, Bosnia-Herzegovina, Republika Srpska in Bosnia-Herzegovina, Slovakia.

Please note: In certain countries, RAILPLUS tickets are accepted, but they are not on sale locally. We therefore recommend buying your ticket for the return journey in Germany.

Our system automatically includes the discount during booking.

If you have a BahnCard for travel in 2nd class, you can only book RAILCLASS fares for 2nd class.

The discount applies only for cross-border travel. There is no discount if your journey is exclusively within one country outside of Germany.

Can I use my BahnCard for local transport?

If you have a BahnCard 100, it automatically includes the City-Ticket function, so you can make as many trips - free of charge - as you want within the applicable area of the towns and cities covered by the offering.
Other BahnCards do not give you free travel on local transport services.

Do I have to cancel my trial BahnCard if I no longer want it after it expires?

You can cancel your trial BahnCard 25/50 in writing up to 6 weeks before it is due to expire. If you do not cancel your card, it automatically becomes an annual subscription. You do not need to cancel a BahnCard 100. Your trial BahnCard 100 expires immediately after the last day of validity and is not automatically extended, as it is not a subscription product.

Can I use someone else's BahnCard?

No. Each BahnCard is person-specific and non-transferrable.

Can I load my BahnCard onto my smartphone?

To make travel even more convenient, you can add your BahnCard to the DB Navigator app. It only takes a few steps following purchase. First, register with BahnCard Services on bahn.com. The relevant section is separate from your My Bahn customer account.

What do I need to do if I lose my BahnCard?

Please contact our BahnCard customer service if you lose your BahnCard.

How long do I have to wait for my BahnCard to be delivered?

You will normally receive your BahnCard about 2 weeks after we receive the order.
