Price:

Prices vary according to route and travel date and are valid for a single journey within Germany. Prices are subject to availability.

Advance sales period:

Tickets can be bought online up to 180 days in advance until shortly before travel.

Validity period for single journeys:

Up to 100 km:
1 day. The ticket is valid on the day specified on the ticket.

Exceeding 100 km:
Travellers must embark on their journey on the day specified on the ticket. The ticket is also valid on the following day.

International:
Tickets for international journeys are valid for up to 4 days.

Validity period between outward and return journeys:

Up to 100 km:
Within one month.
Outward journey: on the entered day of validity of the outward journey
Return journey: on the day of validity of the return journey entered on the ticket

Exceeding 100 km:
Within one month.
Outward journey: on the entered day of validity and on the following day
Return journey: on the day of validity of the return journey entered on the ticket and on the following day

International:
Tickets for international journeys are valid for up to 4 days.

Separate tickets for your outbound and return trips are issued if there is more than 1 month between both dates of travel.

2nd class:
Free choice of seats. The ticket does not include a seat reservation. You can purchase a seat reservation with your ticket or separately at a later point of time.

1st class:
1st class tickets automatically include a seat reservation.

Detours:

Possible only when departing from and returning to the same station. Please note that you may have to pay the difference between the original flexible fare and the fare for the new route. The period of validity of the ticket remains unchanged.

BahnCard discount/RAILPLUS:

BahnCard 25:
BahnCard 25 holders are entitled to a 25% discount BahnCard 50:
BahnCard 50 holders are entitled to a 50% discount

Travel outside of Germany:
When travelling outside of Germany, BahnCard 25 and 50 holders are entitled to a 15% discount (RAILPLUS) on the price of the non-German section of their journey. This discount is available in up to 28 European countries.

Discount for children:

Children aged 6-14 travelling with their parents or grandparents travel for free if they are entered on the ticket. Children under the age of 6 always travel for free (the number of children does not need to be entered on the ticket).

Exchanges/refunds:

Flexible fare for long-distance trains (ICE, IC/EC, IC Bus):
Before the first day of validity: free of charge
On or after the first day of validity: subject to a fee of EUR 19

Flexible fare for regional and local trains (IRE, RE, RB, S-Bahn):
Before the first day of validity: free of charge
On or after the first day of validity: subject to a fee of EUR 17.50
